Santa Claus is coming to town – Milgayi Holiday Gift Guide for 2010

Teatro Verde – Toronto’s treasure trove of home treats.

One of my absolute favorite things to do when I visit a city is to explore their fashion district.  In this case, it’s the very fashionable Yorkville district of Toronto.   This is the perfect part of downtown to shop, dine and people watch on lazy Saturday afternoons. Too sweet to keep to myself, I had to write about an exciting store I made several visits to.  Teatro Verde – meaning “green theater” in Italian, is an entire mansion in Yorkville, jam packed with one-of-a-kind stylish home and garden accessories.  This gorgeous “couture floral boutique” is stocked up with goodies such as picture frames, life size Buddha statues, textiles, ceramic pagodas, candles, soaps, stationary – you name it and they have it. 

 

Owners Shawn Gibson and Michael Pellegrino opened their first über-sophisticated garden and lifestyle boutique way back in 1997 and after being in the business for 13 years, they finally moved their digs into a luxurious two floor Georgian mansion that houses an impressive six themed stylized rooms conveying different moods and even eras, from art deco Hollywood to a grand banquette dining space to a serene garden gazebo. The store also features mini boutiques that showcase stuff for kids and pets, and a stellar selection of style, art and design books in their Assouline library.

This place is not just about buying stuff, it’s about living a certain lifestyle.  Stuff I bought; Fresh’s patchouli soap,  pastel note cards from Elum and Mumma and a ceramic pagoda for my home.  Hope these pictures give you a glimpse of the place, I'll definitely be popping in again soon, to take more slices of this Italian delight back home.

A visit to Teatro Verde should definitely be on your list of things to see, if you are in the city.
