As many of you must have already heard, for the past 37 hours Mumbai has been a target of terrorist attacks. Ever since this has happened, I have been glued to my TV. Although I left South Mumbai over 11 years ago after living there for over 14 years, I still consider myself a staunch Mumbaiker. My heart bleeds for my Mumbai.
Seeing troubled images of Cafe Leopold, Taj and Oberoi hotel, I ask myself what has become of this city in which I had so many great memories. Cafe Leopold was a big part of my college days where all my friends used to hang out after college and the jukebox was the biggest attraction for us back then. Also the fact that we could get chilled beer and chicken biryani at any time of the day was a legacy. And what can I say about Taj and Oberoi – two staples in the Mumbai landscape that has hosted numerous celebrities, dignitaries, and visitors from all over the world; if only those walls could talk – what stories they would be able tell.
What happened to the Mumbai where safety was never a concern? One could go anywhere at any given time of day or night and never worry about being ‘safe’. It was my bindass Bombay… where good times were abundant.
Mumbai, besides being India’s financial capital also claims home to Bollywood – where fashion and entertainment intersect. It is our New York and unfortunately, our 9/11. How can we see this happening to our city? When will all this end?
My heart goes out to everyone affected by the recent mayhem. There is nothing more precious than human life… lets preserve it.
Until next time… be well.
